The Newport Historical Society has been dedicated to the preservation of Newport’s history since 1854 when it was founded. As a non-profit our members help us to carry out our mission of chronicling, advocating for the importance of, and communicating Newport’s history to a wide range of audiences. Having the knowledge of our past, which spans three centuries, will contribute to a deeper understanding of the present and better preparation for the future. Located in the 1762 Brick Market designed by Peter Harrison, our award-winning Museum is the perfect place to begin a visit to Newport. The Museum provides the whole family with an engaging introduction to the area’s rich history and the beauty of its architecture. Glimpse the lives of the people–past and present–who have made Newport one of America’s most historic cities
