Dumbarton House

Built in 1799, Dumbarton House provides a unique view of life in early Washington D.C. Open to the public since 1932, this Federal period estate is the oldest museum in the city, connecting visitors near and far with stories of the people who made D.C., including Joseph Nourse, the first Register of the Treasury. Through the interpretation of its historic site and collections, Dumbarton House promotes the understanding of historic preservation and of the early history of our nation, so that the lives and ideals of early Americans inspire current generations to forge a better future.
